Garden Humour (Hortus facetiae). The aphids are coming, the aphids are coming
    Name the Worm Contest
    Simple Simon
Worms are simple creatures, quietly, discreetly chewing their way through each day. Little do they know how much we enjoy the outcomes of their labours. ~ Deb
    Squirmy the Squire
Shapes and colours stroke my breast Beneath a shaded Sun
    Where I squirm inside patterns
In a dance with the Worms.
    ~Melissa
    Wankel
Like the engine. You know -- the rotary. Rhythmically, quietly, the powerhouse that services the earth beneath us. Wankel the worm at work. ~ Carla
    Earnest
Because to the worm there is but one purpose in life, and they are most "earnest" and single-minded in accomplishing that purpose. That purpose is to aerate the soil and make it so people like me can plant flowers, vegetables, etc. to their heart's content. ~ Barbara
    Willie
"Wee Willie the wriggling Worm" is my name for that excuse of a worm flitting across your page.  Actually, it reminds me of a snake because of its speed.  None of my worms move like that in the heavy clay found in my gardens. ~ Liz
    Ruby Slither
    Why you ask?
    1. Because it is red.
    2. Because it slithers seductively     through the moist earth.
    3. I just realized it's a play on Ruby slipper....
and we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto! ~ Nancy
    Ioeoto
This name has a bit of an oriental flavour to it.  Almost makes him/her sound honourable, which a worm is in a garden. After all isn't this what worms do all the time?
(In One End and Out the Other)
    ~ Andrew/Lillian
    Sir William
O'little earthworm what joy you bring,
Taking plain dirt making plants sing.
    A grand little guy living under my Trillium;
    You deserve a grand name
I dub thee Sir William! ~ Tina
    Motor
A name for a worm, now let me see-
    Something spiffy, wouldn't you agree-
Red it is -- like a shiny sports car -- wriggling, but not bothering to go too far!
Doing a job that's important enough. digging and aerating and that is tough
So the only name that will be just right
Is " Motor", driving out of sight!
    ~ Lorraine
    Wormwood P.     Arthur
As to worms - I always call them after my uncle who gardens and gardens and gardens here in B. C. (and I'm not far behind).
    ~ Jennifer
    Tilde
Same as the squiggle (Til Duh) on the keyboard, just above the "tab" key. Like in - till duh earth. It might heighten awareness of it too because there's one in my web page address, and nobody gets it when I say it.
    ~ Mario
    Harold
Harold, the worm So simple and bold,
You're one in a million (A snack for a toad).
You're good and reliable Efficient it's true,
But here I must say it I do love you too!
    ~ Judith
    Rigley
Never knows if it's coming or going, but whichever, it gets
double the sexual pleasure we do.
    ~ Jill
    Digby
It sounds like the name of a British butler and with that image in mind, I can't imagine a better garden servant than a worm.
    Caren
    First Gear
I think his name should be " First Gear " because of his speed, and power he has to dig through the ground. ~ Elaine
    No Knees
    For obvious reasons. ~ Bob
    El Boro
I Wanted to make him sound a little classy!! Spanish version makes him sound sort of suave don't you think? and Boro relates to the habit of these little creatures who amazingly bore holes and slither in and out of the soil with the ease of a matador whipping his cape!!
    ~ Nan J
    George
Because George is my Dad's name and he's a cool guy.  A critter as cool as a worm also deserves a cool name, so I recommend George. ~ Heather
    Dormworm
"Sardines my butt! Try living in a worm bin!" ~ Bruce
    Slimy
There once was a worm named "Slimy"
    Who thought all composts
    a bit grimy.
So he wrote a new book
    That didn't get a look
Because it was written in rhyme.
(you really didn't expect me to write rhymy . . . did you???)
    ~ Cathy
    Wormdo
Well, what does a worm do? (quote from Red Dwarf)
"It poos in the garden and makes the flowers grow."
(quote from my 5 year old)
    ~ Katherine
    Frank
Most of my worms are named Frank. Why Frank?  Because worms never lie.  When they tell you something, it's the truth.  And the more you know about worms, the more you realize that there is a lot you can learn from them.
    ~ Pat
    SOD
I solemnly swear that I care for worms and really do compost to the best of my ability, so help me Sod.
Please accept the name of SOD for our sacred worm.
    ~ Sabrina AKA Gumby
    Te ootte söpöjä
This is something that I think came from Finland. It may not be a worm (jee) name -- translation anyone?
    ~ Kartano
I managed to have this translated and learned that it means, "You're cute." As I don't know if it means me or the worm, I'll let it stand.
    Hercules
Because he moves the earth and is so-o-o-o-o enduring.
Hercules was strong and patient.  Also, Worm and Hercules are so wonderfully .... diametric.  And as you know we are into metric ... inchworm is out.
    ~ Anne
    Chet
I name every critter that ventures into my garden, and stays for a while, Chet. First came Chet the chickadee, then Chet the chipmunk, I even have a laptop computer named Chet. I don't name the deer Chet though, they get more colourful names which go something like @!#?%!.
    ~ Sue
    Stately Canuck
The name is for two great countries, STATELY for the United States and CANUCK for Canada. Our friend, STATELY CANUCK, can freely travel between our countries without a passport or having to stop at the border patrol stations. He can't be shot down by wayward pilots or sunk by wandering ships at sea. He is ours to share.
    ~ Mike and Ann
    Ringo
Like his namesake, he works steadfastly in the background, keeping the rhythm for all of us in the endless circle of life.
    ~ Allan
    Rod O'Tiller
A worm by any other name is just a meal.
    ~ Mary Ann
    Ko'e
I call the worm Ko'e because that is the Hawaiian word for worm  here. It's important enough that his name capitalized.
    ~ Betty
