Cats! (and Gnomes)
Love em? Hate em?

Dibble's editorial on a gardener's tenuous relationship with cats -- and gnomes.

We should all be more open and understanding about cats, and accept that some people like them; some people don't. Some people like gardening; some people don't. And even though there are some people who actually love cats, and love gardening, there are others, sad to say, who would go out of their way to pursue a cat through a botanical garden while driving a 4X4 with a beer in one hand and shotgun in the other and the stereo blasting out Marilyn Manson loud enough to drown out a whole fleet of leaf blowers.

Me, I like gardening and I like cats, but not necessarily in the same place because, although cats are very good at reducing the number of excess furry critters that think they have the run of my yard, they don't care squat about my flower beds -- especially Darth, the huge persian that nonchalantly strolls into my garden each morning carrying a magazine.

So, sometimes I don't like cats, but I must add, I do enjoy stroking one as it sits purring contentedly on my lap, unless I get a hair in my mouth afterwards. I hate that.
