ALLENSTEIN (Olsztyn) 1920

Plebiscite issue, overprints on German stamps.  Note the two different colours of the 15 pf stamp.  The violet brown issue is fairly rare.  14 stamps in this series.  5, 10, 15 violet gray, 15 violet brown, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 pfenig (of the "Germania" type at the top) and 1, 1.25, 1.50, 2.50 (shown) and 3 mark (of the allegorical type).

Administration and Plebiscite Commission issue with "Treaty of Versailles, Article 94 and 95" overprint.  The violet brown in this issue is uncommon.  The same 14 stamps were in this series as in the above series.  5, 10, 15 violet gray, 15 violet brown, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 pfenig (of the Germania type),  1, 1.25, 1.50, 2.50 and 3 mark (of the allegorical type)

After the plebiscite in 1920, Allenstein became part of Germany and therefor used German postage.  After the re-drawing of the borders in 1945, the area became part of Poland.
