Shaggy Haggis started out with a guy named Mark calling me (Ian) up after I had just joined the Perth County Pipe Band (after playing the GHB's for all of a couple of months!) to see if I wanted to come over and see some pipes he'd made out of some old golf club shafts...well, who could resist that invitation?!?

After he found out that I played the Uillean Pipes, and getting over the fact that I must be crazy, we managed to find a few tunes that we could play in common, though they were mostly the pipe band tunes. Eventually, we got tired of those and Mark picked up his guitar and I my whistle, and the rest, as they say, is history. We were soon joined by Bud Carter, a great Bodhran player, and we bandied about the idea of playing in public...but we needed a hook! 3 old guys sitting around playing is not going to bring in the crowds...

Mark, however, knew of a brilliant young fiddler who might be interested in doing some playing, so Jaclyn Ford came along and suddenly (gasp!) there was some potential for some serious music. Mark then christened us "Shaggy Haggis" and we set about trying to play some things that were not just your average dime-a-dozen session tunes. With the different influences, Irish (Ian), Scottish (Mark), Cape Breton (Jaclyn) and with Bud's experience in the "Privateers" we had a winning combination, and have been expanding out sound ever since.

Since then we've had a few personnel changes.

Along with Ian, Mark and Jac we increased our number to include Dave, Paul and Barb. You could say we've added humour, wit, beauty and class...I'll let you figure out which is which....and now, as of 2008, Jaclyn is pursuing her studies in Kinesiology in Halifax, and she's been replaced by Lindsay Schindler, a super hot young fiddler from London Ontario. Lindsay has been with us since the fall of 2007
