Monarch

01Apr2005: This guitar is a steel string dreadnought with walnut back and sides and an Engleman spruce soundboard. I was interested to try walnut to see what it would sound like. Hopefully we'll find out soon. This poor guitar has had some setbacks along the way. While hanging to dry, it's fallen off it's hook twice. CRASH! on to the floor taking chunks out here and there. Sigh. I think I've spent more time repairing it than I did building it.

In an effort to continue to dabbling in inlay, put a monarch butterfly in the headstock. The butterfly is made of cherry, bone and ebony dust.

The Margaret Post Special

01Apr2005: Now here's something that not many luthiers can say; my mother-in-law is building a guitar with me. Out of the blue she just decided that she would like to learn so she comes out to my shop one day a week and works away. The guitar is coming along very well.

21Apr2005: The sides are bent and glued onto the top. People think that bending the sides is such a hard task. It's not really, it just takes patience and a little practice. I had Marg practice on a scrap piece of cherry for a bit then she tackled the sides. They turned out pretty well.

Walnut Classical

01Apr2005: As an aide to helping Margaret learn, I decided to build a guitar along side of her at the same pace so that I could demonstrate each step on my guitar without "doing the work" on hers.

20Apr2005: I've attached the sides to the soundboard.
