Our Bible study group met "in committee". We had been drawn together at a prophecy conference I taught in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
For many months we had been studying Bible courses together.
God had impressed upon all of us the urgency of the day in which we live, and had given us agreement on God's prophetic timetable and the Biblical ministry of the church is these last days. We now faced a serious question...one involving faith and courage.
We shared the conviction that the church of the last days must be a Bible-teaching church. Many converts will come to Christ in a time of false prophets, doctrines of devils, a falling away and a great deception. If ever the truth must be taught clearly, it will be in these last days.
The kind of teaching needed will be Bible content--not philosophy, psychology, Greek, Hebrew (high tech clergy training)...but basic Bible truths to bring commitment and courage, daring and discipleship, sound doctrine and personal devotion.
We were totally agreed on WHAT WAS NEEDED--a Bible institute program that would provide this ministry both here and elsewhere. The issue was:
I suggested that we do not try to answer this question that evening, but that we should meet again in a week...after prayer and meditation...to let God the Holy Spirit bring us to a decision. Such a task would only be possible if God gave us $10,000 by the time of our opening...$5,000 right away, and matching funds by September 1997.
We met--and it was unanimous.
GOD WANTS US TO START LANDMARK BIBLESCHOOL INTERNATIONAL!
To show God's approval on the project, the first $5,000 had been pledged!
There are three Bible texts on which our vision is founded:
We were aware of two things: first, every major Bible training school tells of small beginnings; second, each school has stories of miracles along the way as God puts his seal of approval on the ministry.
We are certainly aware that we need God's miracles to establish this Biblescholl! Humanly speaking, such a project is beyond us...but we are CERTAIN of God's guidance.
We spent many, many hours searching for a location, preparing offers, negotiating...and finally, by faith, we signed a contract for one year at a cost of $1,000 per month (plus tax). One of our greatest needs at the moment is for supporters to pledge to monthly support of the rent, thus guaranteeing our survival through our first school year.
Through sub-rental agreements already in place when we signed the contract, we have underwritten half that amount...$500 permonth. We are trusting God to move the hearts of those who read this letter to pledge 12 payments of various amounts starting in September 1997. I am praying that a number of those receiving this letter will be able to take on part of this monthly commitment!
We have done some advertising of our new school, and the Lord is bringing together a group of students who are eager to prepare themselves for the last days...both for their own lives and for the ministry of helping new Christians who will be converted in the difficult times that are coming.
We have prepared a three year bachelor's course, and a two year master's course, we open our first semester on September 15 1997. We have also prepared an attractive introduction to the school, complete with curriculum and class schedules. Our program includes correspondence courses by video and by audio cassettes, a resource centre and library, a study hall for those who wish a quiet place to take courses for credit, and satellite schools. I would like to send you a copy of that presentation...free upon request.
ABOVE ALL ELSE, we need your prayers for this venture of faith. We have been busy painting and renovating, listing needed equipment, buying what we can at bargain prices as funds come in, preparing lessons for the fall classes...in short, we are doing all that we can possibly do...and we need your help to make this vision a reality.
In my next letter, I will explain the trends in modern Christian education, and why we feel this kind of school is an absolute necessity. You will be shocked, perhaps, to know what is happening in this field, and you will understand the great need for a return to Bible content...in these last days!
I would like to hear from you...a promise to pray for the school, a request for information on the courses and services we offer, a gift to keep our doors open, a pledge to help underwrite the rent in this first year of operation.
Happy in the Service of the King,
Rev.Harvey G. Lainson
