PHILIP ORGAN - SCULPTOR\PAINTER

Philip Organ Born 1955 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 1960, Philip's family moved back to the beautiful island of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on Canada's east coast. This rugged natural environment made a deep and lasting impression on him while growing up there. Its dynamic cycles of change and transformation helped fuel his creative energy, while germinating a growing awareness of the oneness of life, the interdependence of its multiple manifestations and natural creative processes. He feels instinctively driven to participate in the creative process.

A self portrait in fired clay Philip was introduced to art at an early age with the help of his father who began teaching him painting with oils and acrylics. Later on, he continued exploring art, visiting galleries and museums, researching art through the ages, studying color, form and space, while experimenting with different mediums and techniques. Also attending St Mary's University, Fanshawe Collage, and Dartmouth Technical School. For him, the creative process is a never ending journey of discovery and revelation. Learning never ceases.

Philip working as a deep sea diver Another important influence for him came from the ocean, and living in Nova Scotia offered one of the most spectacular ocean environments imaginable. His deep connection and respect for the ocean was greatly enhanced during interesting and challenging early years spent working as a commercial deep-sea diver off the coast of Nova Scotia. Not only opening a portal for him to an extremely powerful force of nature, diving also provided financial resources and time which helped him continue his art.

Also working in various other mediums including fired clay, cast stone, wood, acrylics, gouache, and mixed media. His interests in modern physics and eastern mysticism, along with his daily practice of tai chi have generated inspiration for some of his work, expounding the significance of synchronized (energy) patterns creating forms in space, in essence, bringing form to life itself.

Although Philip may have his own interpretations for his work, he does not wish to impose limits by describing them in detail. What is important is that the work encourages one to simply stop and experience it, to wonder and reflect, to use one's own imagination to join in aesthetic contemplation and the creative process.

Philip's work has been shown in both commercial and public galleries, including outdoor installations. His work is currently represented by the Canadian Sculpture Gallery in Toronto, and Thielsen Galleries in London, Ontario. In 1997, he became a member of the Sculptor's Society of Canada, and had his first show with the SSC that same year at the Canadian Sculpture Gallery, Exchange Tower, First Canadian Place, Toronto Ontario.
