| A retired engineer, Ken has been facinated with astronomy since childhood on the family farm. A five year stint in the Air Force as a Flight Engineer, peeked that interest even more,as all navigation was by visual observations of the heavenly bodies. After graduation from McGill, Ken spent 20 years designing machinery and systems for the pulp and paper industry. His latest stint was for15 years developing Quality Control Procedures for the aerospace industry. Combining these two backgrounds with his hobby, Ken has developed some unique manufacturing methods for his telescope designs. All telescope tubes are from Lafarge, in Quebec, where adverse weather conditions dictate that Sono tubes have an extra wrap of paper, plus a stronger glue to bond them. All tubes are washed, sealed, primed, and painted. After five years of service, these tubes are still standing up. | ![]() |
| Mirror cells are of a double rocker plate design, made of top quality birch plywood. Teflon bearings are used throughout. The tube rides in a two piece cradle that permits both rotation and lateral movement back and forth for balancing purposes. Ken insists on keeping a personal contact with his customers, getting feedback to constantly improve on telescope designs, and for trying out new ideas. Ken is never content with what was done yesterday, and always looks towards tomorrow and the future for advancement. |
