Bereavement and Consolation

This ministry provides spiritual support at the time of death of a loved one.  Members join the pastor in meeting with the bereaved family to assist with arrangements for visitation, parish prayers, and the funeral service.  They preside at funeral vigil prayers and follow up with families some time after the funeral.

Catholic Women’s League (C.W.L.)

The CWL focuses on spiritual development and social activities for its members.  Members meet monthly for Mass, guest speakers, and mutual support. When a CWL member dies, other members attend her funeral and hold a candle in her honor. CWL participates in outreach to family, government, community life, Development and Peace.  They also are involved in some fundraising.  There are no special requirements for membership; members pay an annual fee and receive a booklet with overview of CWL.

Cursillo

This lay movement encourages members’ involvement in lay ministry.  They are actively involved in their community by offering spiritual and physical help to others.  Members participate in a three day short course with an anticipated life-long commitment to the principles and values of the group.

The Marriage Tribunal – Diocese of Hamilton

 Marriage and the Catholic Church

The Church regards Marriage as one of the seven Sacraments.  It is an intimate covenant of life and love brought into being by the freely exchanged consent of a man and woman by means of their marriage vows.  Marriage is intended by God to be a permanent and faithful union of the spouses which is open the possibility of new life.

The Catholic Church upholds the dignity, sacredness, and permanence of marriage.  While it has not changed its teaching on marriage, the Church has deepened its understanding of the nature of marriage and those qualities of mind, body, and spirit a person must possess in order to validly enter such an interpersonal and intimate union of life and love.

Ministry of Healing and Reconciliation

The task of healing and reconciliation entrusted to the Church by the Lord Jesus must reach out and touch those whose lives have been ravaged by the failure of a marital union.  As the entire life and ministry of Jesus was one of compassionate care, healing and reconciliation, the Church today continues this same ministry of bringing peace, joy and hope to the members of the People of God.

Morning Prayer Leaders

Members of our parish gather regularly as people of prayer to celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Prayer of the Church.  Lay people lead this formal liturgy, supported by cantors who lead the singing.  Reverence and interest are prerequisites; comfort in leading and a clear speaking voice are desirable.  Training is provided.

Parish Lending Library

The purpose of this ministry is to promote reading and the study of the Catholic faith.  Volunteers keep books in order, identify and log newly donated books.  Organizational skills are an asset.

Pastoral Visitors to the Sick

Members of this ministry work in pairs to visit the sick and elderly and bring them the prayerful support of the parish community.  Key qualities for this ministry are respect for the wishes of others, the ability to listen compassionately to another’s feelings and concerns, willingness to share one’s faith without being domineering or boastful.  Training and ongoing support are provided.  All volunteers are screened.

Prayer Network

This ministry provides prayer support to those in need.  Coordinators receive prayer requests for personal and health concerns.  Urgent requests are relayed through a phone chain; less urgent needs are available in the church foyer for anyone who would like to offer prayers.

Project Rachel: A Ministry of Post-Abortion Healing and Reconciliation

Without a doubt, abortion is one of the most traumatic experiences a person can have.  Both before and after abortion, feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, panic and pressure are common—not only for the woman who undergoes the abortion, but also for the father of the unborn child, relatives, close friends and even medical personnel.  For some, the pain can be intensified by a sense of alienation from God and church.

If you are in this position, we want you to know that the Christian community understands and cares.  As believers in a loving and forgiving God, we reach out to you in compassion and concern.

Above all, we want to help you through the healing process.  The Family Ministry Office of the Diocese of Hamilton invites you to participate in Project Rachel, a post-abortion program offered by certified counselors and trained clergy.  We are ready to help all who have been involved in an abortion.

     Project Rachel

  • Is a sensitive, private and confidential experience

  •  Provides you with an opportunity to receive the healing grace of God and to move forward in a caring and hope-filled atmosphere toward reconciliation with yourself, your unborn child, your church and your God.

  •  Can connect you with a priest who will focus on preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Generally, the process will include counseling, prayer and scripture.

  • Is, regardless of your faith, counseling with specially trained professional counselors.  Such counseling can help you sort through your feelings and deal with unresolved conflicts.

Take the beginning step… by calling our Project Rachel number for the Diocese of Hamilton.  The person who answers the phone will give you a courteous and confidential referral to a specially trained priests or counselor.

To initiate your participation in Project Rachel or to receive further information, please call: 905-526-1999 or 1-888-385-3850

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) – Sponsor

In the RCIA process, candidates and sponsors journey together in preparation for the sacraments of initiation. Sponsors provide spiritual support and information, participate in weekly meetings with candidates and the RCIA team, discussions, presentations, faith, and prayer.  Sponsors are practicing Catholics with some knowledge of the faith, a willingness to share their faith experience, and a commitment to the candidate and the task. Individual and small group training is provided.  The pastoral team and ministry leaders offer supervision, formal, and informal evaluation.

Small Christian Communities

Groups of people of all ages come together to reflect on Scripture using the resource “Celebrating the Word” based on the Sunday reading and to pray. Meetings are 1 ¼ hours weekly.  Interest in reflecting on scripture and willingness share its connection to one’s life are key

Spiritual Companioning

A spiritual companion, sometimes referred to as spiritual director, journeys with another in prayer and ongoing relationship.  Through “sacred conversation”, the companion facilitates an individual’s growth, experience, awareness, and response to God’s love and the movement of the Spirit in their life.

Together they may reflect upon the individual’s spiritual history and experience, how one prays and styles of prayer, meaning in one’s life, relationship with Jesus, images of God, need for healing, forgiveness, inner struggles, discernment of vocation and other decisions, or relationship with church.  Ultimately, this reflection aims to encourage and support the individual’s conversation with God in prayer.

The spiritual companion is trained to listen, ask questions, and help the other reflect on God’s presence and movement.  Frequency of meeting is mutually determined, and Scripture and various spiritual exercises and disciplines are usually integrated into the experience.

If you are interested in more information about this kind of relationship for spiritual growth, please contact the parish office for the members of the pastoral team trained in this ministry.
