All ministries follow the Diocese of Hamilton’s

volunteer screening initiatives.

Young Altar Servers

Students, grade 4 and older, are encouraged to join our team of young servers.   Servers receive three phases of training, ongoing support, and feedback.  They volunteer to serve at celebrations of Eucharist, Confirmation, Matrimony, and special liturgies.  Social and recognition events are held each year for servers and guests.  This is a great way for our young people to participate in parish life.  Come join us—bring a friend!

Altar Server Coordinators

Members of this ministry organize servers before Mass.  They ensure sufficient servers are present, review tasks, and encourage and support our young people in their ministry.  They also assist with server training

Children’s Liturgy Programs

Members of this ministry provide age-appropriate liturgy for children 4 to 7 years old at the Saturday 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:30 a.m. Masses.  The children’s program is based on the weekly Gospel message.  Sessions include readings of the week, a reflection, songs, and prayers.  Special events are sometimes held.  Members are practicing Catholics who enjoy working with children.  All are screened according to procedures outlined by  the Diocese of Hamilton.

Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Eucharist and other liturgies.  Full initiation into the Church and willingness to read in front of a large assembly are the primary requirements.  Preparation is key.  Training and ongoing support are provided.

Eucharistic Ministers to the Assembly

Also known as “extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist” (the priest being the “ordinary minister”), members of this ministry are practicing Catholics with a reverence for the Eucharist and interest in building community. While individuals are formally invited by the pastor to participate, those who feel called to this ministry are encouraged to contact the pastor.

Contemporary Choir

This choir leads the assembly in its liturgical music at the Saturday 5:00 p.m. Mass and also provides vocal and instrumental music (guitar, percussion, keyboard, etc.) for other liturgies (e.g., Confirmation) and special occasions.  Prerequisites include ability to participate in choral singing and/or instrumental music.  Voice experience is preferred.

Sunday Choir

This group leads our parish in son at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass and also sings at special liturgies (e.g. Easter, Christmas, Confirmation) and choral festivals.  The primary requirement is willingness to praise the Lord in song.  Previous choir experience is desirable. The choir practices 1 1/2 to two hours weekly, on Thursdays at 7:15 p.m., with a twenty minute warm-up on Sundays. Additional practices are held for cantors and seasonal events

Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers)

These volunteers are often the first faces seen by parishioners and visitors to St. Anthony Daniel Parish.  Their primary task is to embody our Parish Mission Statement of being a “welcoming faith community”.  Greeting, seating, taking up the collection, assisting with gifts at the offertory, and looking after people with special needs are some of their many tasks.  On the job training, participation at the group’s annual meeting, and volunteer screening are required.

Funeral Servers

Adults assist at funeral celebrations as visible representatives of the parish at the Funeral Mass.  Tasks include setting up for and serving Mass, occasionally serving as Eucharistic minister or reader, and purifying vessels following the liturgy.  Knowledge of how to serve Mass and use of incense is an asset.

Funeral Choir

Part of our parish’s ministry of bereavement and consolation, the funeral choir offers presence and song support for families at a time when grieving voices often fail.  Members of this ministry practice monthly and are on call for funeral liturgies which last approximately 1 hour.

Morning Servers

Adult servers set up and serve Mass, and purify vessels afterwards.  Familiarity with how to serve Mass is preferred but not required. Availability and a flexible schedule are assets.
