All ministries follow the Diocese of Hamilton’s volunteer screening initiatives.
Building and Maintenance Committee Members of this ministry are people interested in the “physical plant” and have an active hands-on approach. They need organizational skills and the ability to gather and evaluate input form others. They find people who can do the necessary work to maintain the parish physical facilities (beginning with parishioners), screen projects, and work with Finance Council to develop budgets.
Coffee Sunday Team Friendly service with a smile! This much-appreciated team of volunteers provides refreshments for parishioners on the first Sunday of each month (September-June) and on special occasions as required. They oversee purchase, preparation, set up, decorations, serving, and clean up. If you enjoy working as part of a team, have food handling and some serving skills, this could be for you!
Finance Council The Finance Council advises the pastor on parish financial matters, including budgets and the preparation of monthly financial statements. Members are practicing Catholics with sound management, financial, and communication skills and are invited by the pastor. They meet quarterly, prepare budget and financial statements, and liaise with the parish’s Building and Maintenance and Parish Life Centre Committees.
Funeral (Special Events) Luncheon Committee This team of volunteers set up and serve catered luncheons for funerals and special parish events, and clean up afterwards. Flexible schedule and food handling skills are an asset.
Ministry Enhancement/Volunteer Screening Committee Every service organization is bound by the principle of “duty of care” to ensure the wellbeing of volunteers and the people they serve, especially the vulnerable. Our parish screening committee meets monthly (with tasks assigned in the interim) to implement the volunteer screening initiatives mandated by the Diocese of Hamilton. Members are practicing Catholics, reliable, flexible, skilled in organizing and interviewing, able to work well with others, maintain confidentiality, and undergo the screening process themselves. Volunteer experience is helpful. Orientation, training and supervision are provided by the parish and the Diocese.
Parish Lending Library The purpose of this ministry is to promote reading and the study of the Catholic faith. Volunteers keep books in order, identify and log newly donated books. Organizational skills are an asset.
Parish Life Centre Committees Committees dedicating time and energy to our forthcoming Parish Life Centre include our prayer team, architecture/design, communications, finance, and fund-raising. Some subcommittees require specialized skills. Interest, creativity, availability, and interpersonal skills are key
Parish Pastoral Council This group focuses on the spiritual needs of our parish, soliciting and listening to parishioners’ input, praying for our community, and working with other groups to keep the spiritual life of our parishioner fresh. We seek diversity in our members, representative of the growing diversity of our parish community. Members attend a minimum of nine gatherings a year, at least one Saturday retreat, and agree to a three-year commitment.
Social Committee This committee organizes the annual parish barbeque, garage sale, and other events and coordinates events for seniors. Desire to participate, organizational and planning skills are required.
Welcoming Committee This committee contacts newly registered parishioners to welcome them to our parish family. They meet them at our monthly Coffee Sundays to introduce them to other parishioners, provide resources on parish schools, ministries and activities. If you are friendly, outgoing, kind and courteous, this ministry could be for you!
