Set Up Duties
  1. Read Communication Book
  2. Place Communication Book in kitchen
  3. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  4. Place Important Phone Number List, by phone
  5. Put sign outside William Street Entrance at 5:30pm
  6. Block off stairs and entrance to sanctuary with pews from under coat racks
  7. Set up tables with vinyl table covers
  8. Set up welcome table - sign-in book, nametags, pens, brown paper bags for guest's personal items
  9. Place no smoking signs throughout the church
  10. Place off limit signs on the doors to the parlour and nurseries
  11. Post rules sign on entrance to hall
  12. Post mission statement on bulletin board inside hall
  13. Get first aid kit, place it in kitchen
  14. Place a mattress on the floor at the end of the gym for each guest staying overnight and place a chair between them for separation and storage area for the guest's personal belongings
  15. Listen for volunteers arriving. (at 5:30pm)
  16. Lock Parking lot entrance to church.
  17. Record any comments in communication book
  18. Advise next shift of any situations and when you are leaving.
  19. Sign out when you go home.

Kitchen Duties
  1. Read Communication Book
  2. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  3. Know fire evacuation procedures.
  4. Know where telephone is (take note of emergency numbers)
  5. Wash hands frequently.
  6. Fill containers if necessary.
  7. Prepare frozen food for heating if necessary
  8. Prepare Food - juice, coffee, water, sugar, cream, pasta and sauce, salad
  9. Keep food area tidy.
  10. Place trolley and 2 tubs just outside kitchen entrance for dirty dishes, just prior to 6pm
  11. Before leaving refrigerate unused food.
  12. If possible, place two servings in fridge for late arrivals.
  13. Use dishwasher to clean dishes and return dishes to cupboard.
  14. Clean kitchen area.
  15. When using three sinks: Wash, Rinse and Second rinse water should contain Javex.
  16. Record any comments in communication book
  17. Sign out when you go home.

Server Duties
  1. Read Communication Book
  2. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  3. Always know who your buddy is.
  4. Seat our guests at table, get them coffee, juice
  5. Serve guests and interact.
  6. When dinner is ready, serve the guests their meals at their tables
  7. Serve desert and coffee
  8. Pick up all dishes and cutlery (Account for each piece.)
  9. Clear tables and wipe vinyl table cloths
  10. Be aware of situations - assist other volunteers if necessary.
  11. Always wash your hands
  12. Record any comments in communication book
  13. Advise next shift of any situations and when you are leaving.
  14. Sign out when you go home

Door Control Duties
  1. Read Communication Book
  2. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  3. Unlock door at 6pm.
  4. Know fire evacuation procedures.
  5. Know where telephone is (take note of emergency numbers)
  6. Shovel entrance and put out ice melter if necessary.
  7. Make sure there are always two people at the welcome table.
  8. Welcome guests making sure they know the guidelines of behavior.
  9. Make sure guests get a nametag and sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book even if it just an x. This being in case of an emergency we know how many people are in the building.
  10. Keep track of attendees both visitor, guest and volunteer. Indicate when they leave the building.
  11. Be prepared to take guest's personal items for storage…(drugs, alcohol, weapons…)
  12. Make sure that all volunteers sign in.
  13. Record any comments in communication book
  14. Advise next shift of any situations and when you are leaving.
  15. Sign out when you go home

Hospitality Duties
  1. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  2. Clean off table cloths from supper
  3. Set up TV and VCR and chairs for video, some one is to watch video with our guests
  4. Mingle with guests, playing cards etc., talking with them
  5. At no time, should the door be unmanned
  6. Periodic checks of halls, washrooms and other areas
  7. Always know who your buddy is.
  8. Be aware of situations - assist other volunteers if necessary.
  9. Record any comments in communication book
  10. Advise next shift of any situations and when you are leaving.
  11. Sign out when you go home.

Overnight Duties
  1. Read Communication Book
  2. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  3. Know fire evacuation procedures.
  4. Know where telephone is (take note of emergency numbers)
  5. Be alert.
  6. Bring in sign prior to locking doors. Put sign away.
  7. Lock doors at 11pm.
  8. Check all areas of the church prior to lights out.
  9. Keep track of attendees both visitor, guest and volunteer. Indicate when they leave the building. (for a smoke for example)
  10. Always wash your hands.
  11. Always know who your buddy is.
  12. Quietly check that our guests are sleeping fine, once an hour (make sure that all guests are accounted for)
  13. Periodic checks of halls, washrooms and other areas
  14. Be aware of situations - assist other volunteers if necessary.
  15. Put coffee on for breakfast shift.
  16. Make bag lunch for overnight guests, sandwich, granola bar, fruit and a juice box.
  17. Record any comments in communication book
  18. Advise next shift of any situations and when you are leaving.
  19. Sign out when you go home

Breakfast Duties

  3. Be alert.
  4. Wake guests no later than 7am
  5. Always wash hands.
  6. Prepare breakfasts - cereal, juice or coffee, fruit
  7. Serve guests breakfast
  8. Clean off tables, wash dishes
  9. Clean up kitchen
  10. When using three sinks: Wash, Rinse and Second rinse water should contain Javex.
  11. Record any comments in communication book
  12. Sign out when you go home

Clean Up Duties
  1. Read Communication Book
  2. Sign Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book and get a nametag (first name only)
  3. Be alert.
  4. Keep track of attendees both visitor, guest and volunteer. Indicate when they leave the building. Return any stored items to them.
  5. Always wash your hands.
  6. Clean up Wastebaskets, Take out trash.
  7. Bag used blankets for cleaning. Collect any other laundry (take to Newtex Cleaners).
  8. Use rubber gloves when cleaning.
  9. Wet mop Hilliard hall floor, entranceways both washroom's and kitchen area.
  10. Disinfect bed mats, let dry then stack in storage area
  11. Use disinfectant kit to clean tables and chairs.
  12. Disinfect bathrooms.
  13. Put away - Guest / Volunteer Sign In Book, tags, pens, First Aid Kit, Communication Book, Import Phone Numbers List, tables, chairs
  14. Wash towels and return to kitchen.
  15. Lock door
  16. Record any comments in communication book
  17. Sign out when you go home

Remember, we want to leave the church as we found it,
no one should even know we were there.
