This pen and ink copy is taken from a sketch or miniature, which is sometimes identified as the work of John André. Versions of it are reproduced in several 19th century books, Washington Irving's The Life of George Washington (c1859) and Benson Lossing's The Pictorial Field-Book of the Revolution being two examples.

Recently, I acquired a copy of an engraving which is obviously connected -- but equally undocumented.
