About Us

A look at where we came from...and where we want to go.

It all started back in 1994. I had just finished my first season coaching a girl's midget-age team. I had decided that I wanted more out of the sport of women's softball and wanted to coach at the Rep level. Without someone with experience there was no way I was going to get a team. I then went to my father, who had coached boy's softball for over ten years, when I was a kid. With a little persuasion, I managed to talk my father into coaching for the 1995 season. From there, we also embarked on getting our NCCP Levels with Softball Ontario. We both coached the Kitchener Minor Girls midget Tier II team from the 1995 season to the 1998 season. After four years of watching girls go over the midget age and then having no where to play the following year, we decided that something was needed. Hence the creation of the Angels Softball Club. We called up some of the girls who had played for us in the past and put our first team on the Diamond in 1999. It was a rough year, with only a 350% season and a lot of heart aches and money spent that we really didn't have. The first year team was junior II team. In 2001 we had the Rippers of the K-W Ladies Fastball League join forces with us. This season would not see a junior team, but two Intermediate teams. The Angels had 450% season, as did the Rippers. As well, the Rippers won the B division Championship of The K-W Ladies Fastball League. Unfortunately the coach of the Rippers had to withdraw from the team for 2001 and this ended the connection of the two teams.

The 2000 season also saw the birth of the Angels Softball Clubs 1st Annual Swing Into Summer Tournament. We boasted 8 competitive teams and a very exciting finish, with Saugeen Shores Junior I Team defeated PortDover in the 11th Inning.
The 2001 tournament was an even bigger event with twelve teams taking part. Future tournaments will hopefully see 16-20 teams participating, and maybe even some from the USA. We are always looking for assistance with any aspect of the tournament, so if you want to get involved please contact us.

The 2001 season has begun with a ring of excitement. The team began tryouts/workouts on February 29th 2001 and went into the month of April. The season did see the departing of Courtney Wilson and Janine Hayter, which was a great upset to all of us. Without our pitching the season has started slowly, but with great hope for improvement.
Thus far this season both Kelly Gimbel and Holly Strauss have stepped to the front to take on the pitching duties. These have been two young ladies with will and want to improve and they have done just that. As well, late arrivals Krys Pick and Kristen Bachner have also stepped in with some great games pitched. I do believe at this point in time I can safely say we have begun to build what I believe will be a powerful pitching staff for the future and to end the 2001 season. Way to go girls!

The Angels in 2001 entered into four tournaments this past summer, St.Catherines, Ancaster, Kitchener, and Brantford and participated in the Intermediate Tier I provincials in InnerKip. The Angels had a mediocre season with some weak areas and rebuilding needing to be done for 2002.

The 2002 season saw a range of different happenings for the club. The 3rd Annual "Swing Into Summer" tournament, grew from 12 to 16 teams this year, and saw two different teams in the championship. The tournament had to be played in part at Budd Park as well as Peter Hallman. The Team has had a very disappointing season, finishing the regular season in 9th place.

In future we will be holding more workouts come the beginning of March. Our goal is to offer women from ages 17 and up a place to play softball, who would normally not have somewhere to play. We still hold hopes of expanding the organization to two or more teams. If you are interested in knowing more about Angels Softball we will be holding six to eight weeks of tryouts/workouts for all women who are interested, every year.

2003 saw one of the best seasons we have had as a club, since the start. We finished 7th in our league, and just missed the final two rounds of the B-division playoffs due to injuries and weather. Overall the team had a very good showing and proved there is something there for the future. We made appearances in Ancaster, for Cam Mitchell's last hurrah (good luck on future endeavors Cam), in the Milton Tourney and our own here in K-W. Check out all the information on our tournament page. This year brought the club International acclaim with the appearance of two teams out of the USA. We happy to see the teams come and happier when Taylor Door brought home the gold for the Swing Into Summer Tournament.

2004 was a great year for the Angels. We played tournaments in Woodstock, our own Swing Tournament, Milton and held provincials.
The Swing tournament saw us go to 20 teams, and once again get two teams out of the US. Stratford and Scarborough battled in extra innings, with Scarborough Jr's coming out on top.
This year P.W.S.A. was pleased to call the Angels Softball Club, the hosts of the Intermediate II provincial finals. The tournament went off without a hitch, thanks to all the volunteers and a great job put on by our city's grounds crews. The Fields and the teams all looked top notch. It was a very close tournament with St. Catharines coming out on top. Thanks to everyone that participated, and to all our volunteers.

2005 is starting off as a rebuilding season. This year's roster is a younger more vital team then previous years. With the strong defense the Angels should prove to be a force this season. The Swing Into Summer Tournament proved once again to be a great success. We had 20 of Ontario's top Intermediate and Junior teams. It was a tough fight with the Angels placing in the top eight for the first time in the 6-year history of our own tournament, with the Palmerston Marlins Jr. team beating Cambridge in the finals.  A repeat performance from our appearance in the Woodstock tournament. The Angel's are shooting for a medal this year in the provincials.
