Trouble Shooting Tips
ECM (Engine Control Module)
If you feel like you've tried everything including a few things that seemed pointless, pulled out some hair, maybe popped a couple vain's , now look at your once cute and lovable suzuki and see it as a demon sent from hell to torment you , have the gerry can in hand and are about to dowse your truck in gas you might want to check your ECM before lighting that match. ECM failure is Very common in the sidekick . The reason for this is the company (Mitsubishi) that manufactured the ECM's for suzuki used a capacitor on the circuit board that doesn't fair well with extreme temperature changes and eventually suffers a melt down and oozes corrosive goo all over the circuit board. This in turn can cause the ECM to fail in a multitude of ways with widely varying symptoms. ECM failure can also occur if moisture gets in or build up in the ECM's case causing corrosion on the circuit board. Luckily ECM's are usually fairly easy to find at a local wrecker. Also if you know about circuit boards or knows someone who does the problem with the ECM is usually an easy fix. It's actually sad how many perfectly good Suzuki's have met an untimely end at a wrecking yard just because of a bad ECM.
Now yours doesn't have to be one of them!
