Enjoy a long weekend snowshoeing at the "Tip o' the Bruce" in the Tobermory area. We will have our meals and stay in the very comfortable Princess Hotel in Tobermory that overlooks Little Tub Harbour. Our outings will take us to the Georgian Bay and Lake Huron shores and are about 10 km in length. This weekend has proven popular in years past and the snowshoeing is suitable for all levels. Sunday, March 25, 2012 – Lynn Valley Trail. Level 2. 4 km/h. Mostly flat. Moderate. 22 km
Meet at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park in Simcoe. Take Hwy 24 south to Simcoe, continue south on Hwy 24/Northfolk St through Simcoe. Continue on Norfolk St., past Victoria Street to Woodhouse St. There is a small sign for Memorial Park, turn left, east, one block then right, south, into Memorial Park (Google Maps 42.828890 -80.299667 - park is near the end of Woodhouse St & Owen St). This rail trail is one of Canada's best and runs from Simcoe to Port Dover beside the Lynn River. The trail is wide, flat with a good surface and for the most part protected by trees. We will search for signs of spring along the way to Port Dover for lunch at Tim Horton's and then retrace our steps to Simcoe. New to hiking? We will help you. No dogs, no dropouts & no smoking. - From Kitchener follow Trussler Rd south passing under Hwy 401 - NOTE: Near Hwy 401 Trussler Rd jogs before heading south again. That is, at 401, you will turn lefton Twonship Rd 11/Greenfiled Rd, pass under Hwy 401 and immediately turn right (south) on Trussler Rd.
- Head south from Trussler Rd - go 2.3 km
- Continue on Brant-Oxford Rd - go 9.7 km
- Continue on Puttown Rd/Brant-Oxford Rd - go 1.1 km
- Turn left at CR-2/HWY-2 - go 0.5 km
- Turn right at Bishops Gate Rd - go 17 km
- Continue on Simcoe St - go 0.9 km
- Turn left at Vanessa Rd - go 0.3 km

Saturday, April 21, 2012 – Bruce Trail, Beaver Valley/Blue Mt. Level 2/3: Moderate ~ 16.6 km
BT Map 24, Ed. 26. Depart at 9:00 a.m. from km 69.4, Map 24 on Scenic Caves Rd (approx. lat/long = 44.492585,-80.318839). [Note that km 69.4 is incorrect in this edition and should be km 63.9.] Starting east of Ravenna we walk northward to and around the Len Gertler Memorial Loree Forest then southward along the Blue Mountains escarpment edge with great views of Nattawasaga Bay. Hiking boots are a must and trekking poles are recommended. No dogs and no dropouts. Directions from Ravenna on Grey Rd 2: Coming from the south on Grey Rd 2 into Ravenna turn right (east) on Sideroad 15 & follow it about 7.8 km, turn left (north) on Scenic Caves Rd for about 1 km where the main BT enters a Blue Mountain Resort parking lot. Sunday, April 22, 2012 – Bruce Trail, Big River, Sydenham. Level 2/3: Moderate ~ 15.2 km
BT Map 29, Ed. 26. Depart at 9:00 a.m. from km 14.5, Map 29 (approx. lat/long = 44.498212,-80.738693). This relatively new main trail involves some road and facilitates the on-going attempt to move the trail to its optimum route. Today we experience a portion of the Spey River Forest East, pass through some BTC Managed Land and a high point with views before descending to road. Then we finish at the highest point in the area that offers good views out over the Bighead River Valley. Hiking boots are a must and trekking poles are recommended. No dogs and no dropouts. Directions from Markdale: Head northwest on Hwy 10, right onto Artemesia Holland Townline for about 300 m & veer left on Euphrasia Holland Townline for about 15 km, left onto County Road 40, right onto Concession Road 10 to & across Holland Sydenham Townline onto Concession Road 2 South for about 600 m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 – Bruce Trail, Niagara, Ball's Falls. Level 2/3: Moderate ~ 11.9 km
BT Map 4, Ed. 26. Depart at 9:30 a.m. from The Centre for Conservation parking lot near km 56.2. The entrance to this parking lot is at approx. lat/long = 43.133261,-79.38655. Day use fee in 2011 was $5.75 (seniors $4.25). Today's relatively short walk takes us through wooded areas, amongst dolostone boulders and along the escarpment with views of the vineyards below before reaching Ball's Falls. Hiking boots are a must and trekking poles are recommended. No dogs and no dropouts. Directions from the Queen Elizabeth Way/Niagara (east): Take exit 57 toward Victoria Avenue/Vineland/County Road 24, right onto Marina Blvd, take the 1st left onto Victoria Ave (signs for County Road 24 S/Victoria Avenue S/Vineland/North Service Road) for about 5.8 km, left onto 6 Ave/Regional Road 75 for about 0.4 km, right into C. We will enjoy the trails of the lower Bruce Peninsula. Wherever possible we will use side trails to form loops.The views and spring flowers are as good as the Bruce Trail gets! Sunday, May 27, 2012 – Bruce Trail, Mount Nemo. Level 2/3: Moderate ~ 15.3 km
Depart at 9:00 a.m. from km 82.1 [approx. lat/long = 43.387907,-79.853454] BT Map 10, ed 26. This Bruce Trail walk is part of the Iroquoia section & takes us to the top of the Niagara Escarpment at Mount Nemo, a shore feature, formed 450 million years ago by a warm tropical sea and since etched by glacial and fluvial episodes. Mount Nemo provides some spectacular lookouts varying from 30 m in the north to 10 m high at the south. Directions: From Hwy 401 take exit 312, go south through Campbellville on Reg. Rd 1/Guelph Line (Main St in Campbellville) for about 16.6 km to where the trail meets Guelph Line. The hike includes road walking before and after Mt. Nemo. – 10th Annual Orchid Adventure, Tobermory 
You are invited to join us as we explore the Tip o' the Bruce, Tobermory, in search of orchids and other flowers. Our search will extend to Flower Pot Island (island map) with a cost of approximately $35.00 for the glass bottom boat and Parks Canada fee. The wild flowers in the Tobermory area in the spring are wonderful and our walks will focus on these flowers and the area's great views. These walks will be slower paced and shorter than regular hikes. We will have our meals and stay in a very comfortable Princess Hotel in Tobermory that overlooks Little Tub Harbour. The number of participants is limited to 25 and has been full the past few years. Beginners welcome. No dogs. Reservations required.
