Our Golden Retrievers
Here
is Momma aka Naughtius Maximus.
Golden
Retrievers do
see themselves as 'people' .
This is a grown up puppy from Naughty's first litter, enjoying his creature comforts. He likes to have a soft bed and a pillow.
Golden Retrievers stay puppies a long time. Naughty at four years of age is still as playful as a puppy. She has unlimited energy and loves a wild run in the woods.
We have had two litters of puppies. We have
bred them for the dark colour. We've been told that one puppy from our
first litter is a show winner. Here is a picture of our latest puppies
at three weeks old. They were born at a Scouter training camp and
certainly added another dimension.
We raised this litter in our house in the kitchen. They are
well advanced when we spend a lot of time with them.
The mother of the puppies finds it hard when they start becoming 'cute' as of course people ooh and ahh over the puppies. Naughty is pleased when she's the only dog in the house.
Here
is one of our latest puppies at two and a half months old. We named him
Socrates as he seemed to be so wise and intelligent.
His new name is Travis. His owners are very pleased with and proud of him. They have taught him to ring a bell when he wants to go out.
What a neat concept! We'll have to try that with our next litter.
Here is Stan at seven weeks of age.
She was so named as she appeared to be 'standoffish'. The other puppies in the litter would sleep in a heap, and she would sleep away from the pile-a-puppies. It took us a little while to figure out that she was rolling over and couldn't get back. Nonetheless, her name stuck .
Her face has been described as 'the face to die for'. She learned to chase a ball, retrieve it and drop it before any of the others.
Her new owners have named her Ginger.
Here
is Snuggles (now named Trapper) at six weeks of age. He is going to be
quite large judging by the size of his feet and his appetite - probably
in the range of seventy pounds at maturity.
He was most content when setting on someone's lap, and didn't even think about jumping down to play with the others.
He loves to cuddle and to lick any exposed skin, especially bare feet. He is a neat freak and barks non-stop until messes are cleaned up.
Let
sleeping dogs lie?
Here are Squirt and Snuggles. Squirt's new name is Sierra.
At about three weeks from birth our puppies were out of the whelping box . We started training them to sleep in a crate at night. They seemed quite content with the situation, and by seven weeks they slept through the night quietly and contentedly in the crate.
Bear.
