Ted's Tokens - Upper & Lower Canada

Commerce and trading were common themes on tokens, especially since many were circulated by merchants "to facilitate trade". Many of the tokens honoured war heros like Sir Isaac Brock, Lord Nelson, and the Duke of Wellington.

Upper Canada
 
Sr Isaac Brock The Hero of Upper Canada. Fell October 13, 1812 (Br-724)
Success to Commerce & Peace to the World 1816
Sir Isaac Brock was a hero of the war of 1812, who died while repelling an American invasion.
"Sloop" Halfpenny Token Upper Canada (Br-730)
Commercial Change 1820. An anvil and blacksmith's tools.
This antedated token was actually struck in the 1830's.
"Sloop" Halfpenny Token Upper Canada (Br-727)
To Facilitate Trade 1833. A plough.

Lower Canada
 
Wellington Halfpenny Token (Br-979)
The Duke of Wellington tokens were some of the earliest tokens to appear in Lower Canada, arriving with British troops. This one has Britannia seated, with a date of 1814.
The Illustrious Wellington (BR-981)
Waterloo Halfpenny 1816, showing a 10-string harp. This antedated token was produced in 1830.
Victoria Nobis Est Halfpenny Token
This token is thought to feature the portrait of Lord Nelson.
Britannia/ Eagle Halfpenny Token 1815
This may have been antedated - possibly struck as late as the 1830's with a date of 1815.
Bust and Harp Token (BR-1012)
This is a brass Bust and Harp (ca. 1837?), antedated 1820.
Tiffin Halfpenny Token, 1812 (BR960)
This 1832 coin is a copy of an earlier English piece, showing Commerce and George III.
