Fork Tailed Devils

Art - Information Display

Largest P-38 Art Collection and Information Display in Canada

"Gableschwanz Teufels" ... pronounced ... "gable-shwanz-two-fels" is the phrase or nickname meaning

...Fork Tailed Devil... given to the P-38 Lightning by the German Luftwaffe pilots of WWII

The art collection and information display is my hobby.

This photo shows half of my display, the display board with the information panels. The greatest intercept mission in aviation history is posted on the board - Operation Dillinger: the Yamamoto Mission. Included are the mission story and map, a biography of Admiral Yamamoto, and a photo of the last surviving Zero fighter pilot who was escorting Yamamoto's aircraft. The other half of the display consists of seven wonderful art prints depicting five parts of the mission and a portrait of the two key pilots.

Learn about the world's first twin engine air superiority fighter,

a historic World War II fighter plane,

the pilots who flew it, the missions they went on,

and some of the secret special operations the plane and pilots took part in.

A static-display consist of from 1 to 8 art prints depending on the topic selected, and an information display board (up to six "conference style" tables of approximately 30 inches x 6 feet will be required to set the display board and art prints on). The tables are supplied by the person/organization booking the display. I staff this static display, answering questions and discribing the art prints and the events depicted in them when people request information and assistance.

A speaker-display consist of the above, however, I make a formal presentation of information on the topic selected representing what is depicted in the art prints. The presentation usually takes an hour including a question and answer period. This time can vary and is shorter (30 minutes) for presentations to children. A number of presentations are avialable over a selected time period (i.e. presentation #1: 9-10 am, #2: 11-12 am, #3: 2-3 pm, #4: 4-5 pm, #5: 7-8 pm) I usually allow one hour between presentations to give guests a chance to stroll about the display and ask other questions informally. As well it allows for new guests to arrive and look at the display before the formal presentation starts.

A school-display consists of one or more 30 minute presentations as above. However, the school display is created to present educational information - reading, math, science, history, and geography; promote staying in school for a good education; respecting adults and the elderly; honour our veterans; and remembering history and what it can teach us. The theory of flight and how aircraft are controled is also included.
