Painted Bunting
I was spending a week at Long Point part of the Long Point Bird Observatories spring bird migration program. I was lucky enough to go to a remote banding station halfway down the point called Breakwater. The first day (May 19) I was there, I spotted this bird only a few feet away from the cabin. It soon after disappeared but on the next net run I found this bird in one of the nets! This bird was a Second-year male or first-alternate male. This was the third record for Long Point.
The measurements were: Wing-69mm, Weight-20.1g. and Fat-2. The weight and fat suggests that this bird was around for a few days as there was a huge storm that had passed a few days earlier. That same storm had brought a Kirtland's Warbler to Breakwater two days prior!
