Loggerhead Shrike
I was birding along the Conestogo River close to my house on April 9th, when I was completely shocked to see a shrike fly by me. Closer inspection of this bird made me very cautious about the identity of the bird, so I quickly went home to grab my camera and scope. When I arrived back to the spot where the shrike was I found it sitting and foraging along the road. After taking some pictures I was able to confirm that it was definitely a Loggerhead. There are very few records of Loggerhead Shrike within Waterloo Region and this bird is likely the first record of this species in the last 15-20 years.
