Jane and Daniel Henry McKenty 

     The credit for this branch of the family tree goes to the hard work of cousins Jerry& Robin in Kentucky, and Pat and Sally in New York. It is solely the fruits of their research  

In Memoriam  

On January 7 Jerry McKenty was killed in a tragic accident. There is no doubt that he will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. He shared his love for genealogy with his cousins on the net and inspired them with passion and determination. His passing has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. Please keep Jerry, his wife Robin, and their family in your prayers

     Its obvious Jane is the matriarch of this branch of the family tree, but we're uncertain of the patriarch. The name Daniel Henry is just a guess. On their daughter Jane's death certificate her parents are listed as Daniel and Jane.  On the eldest son Henry's it says Jennie and Denis. If the first son was named Henry, and if they followed the traditional naming patterns, there had to be a Henry involved somewhere. Oddly enough the offspring contain no son named Daniel
                                                                                                                                                   
       As a matter of interest there was another family living in New York State at the time and possibly related. The 1870 census lists Neil (1803) and Catherine(1805) McKenty living with their son John 1842 and presumably their grandson George age 8 (1862). All these families lived in close proximity to the Quebec and South Eastern Ontario families

  DANIEL HENRY¹ MCKENTY was born in Ireland.  He married JANE.  All the census records indicate Jane and her children were all born in Ireland as well.

2.  JANE² MCKENTY (DANIEL HENRY¹) was born 1833 in Ireland, and died September 07, 1890 in Potsdam NY.  Jane was married twice She married  MICHAEL DELANY first.  After Michael's departure or death? Jane married Leonard Elison around 1865

2  HUGH² MCKENTY (DANIEL HENRY¹) was born November 1835 in Ireland.  He married SARAH CONNOR Abt. 1856.  She was born 1838. The 1860 census says Sarah was born in Canada but the 1900 one says Ireland. Unless there was some illegitimacy involved, Hugh doesn't seem to be following traditional naming patterns....or are we lost in the genealogical haze?

3.  WILLIAM JOHN³ MCKENTY (HUGH², DANIEL HENRY¹) was born January 1870 in New York.  He married SARAH JANE GONYEA October 06, 1893.

3.  JAMES³ MCKENTY (HUGH², DANIEL HENRY¹) was born April 1872 in Norwood NY.  He married DELIA SMITH, daughter of RACHAEL BASHAW.  She was born in Canada.
   Besides James a number of McKenty's married Smith girls including  2 of Henry and Bridget's sons and one of Hugh’s. I wonder if Delia was related to them. All were from Canada

4.  ROBERT HAROLD⁴ MCKENTY (WILLIAM JOHN³, HUGH², DANIEL HENRY¹) was born December 13, 1897 in Norwood, and died November 23, 1957 in Cleveland Ohio.  He married NELLIE GENEVA SCHLIESMAN January 1919.  Robert, his wife, and sister moved to Cleveland from NY State . Robert H. and Nellie G. died there of Pulmonary Tuberculosis. William John was murdered, April 26,1980..

Louis and Robert were twins...both Dan and John McKenty ..offspring of Henry and Bridget had twins as well ....a genetic similarity between these 2 branches?

LOOSE ENDS   There is record of a number of other McKentys living in New York State in the latter part of the 19th century. In White Creek George McKenty 1843-1916, son of Cornelius McKenty and Katherine McCann lived with his wife Ellen 1859-1934. Both are buried in Woodlands cemetery. 
    In New York Soldiers Of the Civil War by Wilt,  a George and Neil McKenty, whom I believe were brothers , and both were mentioned as Civil War veterans in the Twenty Second Infantry.
      A Neal 1803 and Catherine 1805 McKenty, along with John 1842, and George 1864 also lived in White Creek. This maybe the same Neal and Katie who lived in Bennington VT for a while. Around the same time, near Jamaica NY,  a William  1846 and Mary Jane McKenty lived
  The New York Directory for 1905-1910 has  John E MacKenty, a physician,  living at 43 W 54th. He was the grandson of John and Mary Mulvena McKenty, the Quebec and Ernestown families. There was also record of Selina McKenty, probably the wife of Henry (Amherst Island, then Chicago) living at 31 Union Square W R905 in 1905
