US models

Every rule has exceptions. While CP western action in 1989 has always been my choice, I do make exceptions from time to time when an appealing model might bring some hobby enjoyment. I generally don't run this equipment with anything else and its primary function is as display case material.

I thought the MKT stripe scheme was neat and this older Athearn RTR GP38-2 provided me with some hobby fun as I upgraded the detailing on it, adding MU stands, MU hoses, drop steps, beacon, speed recorder, body-mounted couplers, touched up end handrails, eye pins, grab irons and curved grab around the last roof fan. Nice to have a diversion from time to time.

I can easily run this SD40-2 in with my CP Rail ones. This is an original run Athearn that I painted myself after adding a few parts like walkway tread, filled in the body mounting lugs, MU hoses, MU stands, sand hatches, eye pins, grabs and speed recorders. The model is very accurate, having been patterned after the real BN 7052.

In the early-1980s some of you might remember the numerous Chessie System units we had on lease. 3839 was one of those units that was used on CP in that timeframe and so I have weathered up the nice Atlas model of the correct version. I numbered the unit myself, using the revised Microscale decals with correct road # size.

This is one of Athearn Genesis' finest efforts. The accurate SD70MAC for BN, released to modellers in September 2004. These were the last new units delivered to BN in 1994 prior to the merger with Santa Fe in 1995.
